The World Marxist Review (WMR) is a new-founded quarterly, peer-reviewed, open access title, co-sponsored by the Innovative Marxist Studies Branch of the World Association for Political Economy and the Northwestern Polytechnical University in China, published by Canut Press. In the spirit of upholding fundamental principles and breaking new grounds, the World Marxist Review aims to solve major theoretical and countermeasure problems in the fields of global economy, people’s livelihood, politics, culture, civilization, ecology, military, international relations, and social movements, thus objectively analyze erroneous views in various fields, especially criticize the fallacies and acts of neo-imperialist and hegemonic alliances in the current conjuncture, so as to promote the consistency and innovation of Marxist theories around the world. The World Marxist Review mainly publishes articles on a wide range of important topics, including: studies on the classical works of Marxism and their development by Marxists in various countries, the latest advances and scientific innovations in Marxist theory in various countries, the major theories of the current communist and workers’ parties in various countries, the international communist movement and the development of world socialism, etc..

Open Access Policy

The World Marxist Review will be Open Access for the following 3 years until 2027 and all content published in WMR is fully open access: immediately freely available to read, download and share. Articles are published under the terms of a Creative Commons license which permits use, distribution and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited.

This means the copyright holder of published material grants usage rights to others using the open CC BY 4.0 license allowing for immediate, free access to the work and permitting any user to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles, crawl them for indexing, pass them as data to software, or use them for any other lawful purpose without asking prior permission of the publisher or the author.

The copyright terms of the copyright holder of published material work in agreement with the above, open CC BY 4.0 licensing terms and with the terms of the open access policy. Moral rights will be retained by the original Author/s and copyright will be held by the Author.

The World Marxist Review is free of author charges. This means that authors are not charged any submission fees, editorial processing charges, article processing charges (APCs) or any other charge during any point from submission to publication.

Focus and Scope

  • Clarification of the authentic spirit of Marxism in its classical texts and in its revolutionary practices through research on the classical works, on the development of Marxism by Marxists in various countries and on theoretical contributions and practices of communist and working-class parties in various countries;
  • Innovation and application of the working theories of Marxism in the context of changes in the 20th and 21st centuries;
  • Connection of Marxist principles to those of other intellectual traditions, whether of the ancient Axial Age or the modern bourgeois epoch that are critical of oppression and exploitation of all sorts, including those arising in the age of capitalism and imperialism;
  • Elucidation of the historical-materialist laws of motion governing the evolution of human society as manifested concretely in the histories of various countries and civilizations;
  • Analysis of major current affairs from the Marxist perspective that covers changes in the existing global capitalist system in one or more of its aspects—social or ecological, cultural or economic, legal or ideational, political or technical, domestic or foreign etc. and reveals the connections between current affairs and the innate contradictions of the workings of capitalism;
  • Dialectical reflection on past experiences and lessons of Marxist parties and social movements drawing out their implications for the improvement of revolutionary practices in the future;
  • Exploration of the conditions of socialist construction in China and other socialist countries, with their implications for the internationalist project of human emancipation;
  • Examination of developments in key parts of the world, including but not limited to China, Russia, the US, European Union, Japan, BRICS countries, as well as their interactions with one another, with implications for the preservation of and challenge to the existing global imperialist capitalist order;
  • Treatment of issues facing the international communist movement and world socialist development; and
  • Assessment of the prospects of socialist transformation in developing countries and in advanced capitalist regions and their mutual influences.
