Abstract

Since the establishment of the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Science, there has been constant controversy. The United States, research center of the current world economics, has basically monopolized this prize. Since the beginning of the 21st century, the degree of monopoly has increased. If foreign scholars want to win this honor, they basically need to receive academic education or conduct academic research in the United States first. It can be said that the Nobel Prize in Economics has, to some extent, become an “American Price in Economics”. By sorting out the history of the shift of the economic research center from Europe to the United States, we can see that the regional nature of economic research has shifted from relative dispersion to high concentration. This phenomenon reveals the essence of the United States' monopoly on economic research and also shows us the various mutations of mainstream economics as it develops under the guise of science. On this basis, we should look forward to the future development direction of Chinese economics.
